I have a Virtual Machine or VM on the cloud and I pay for this ‘by the hour’. I only use it 8 hours per day; so is there a way to automatically turn it off and on on a fixed schedule to save me money in my cloud operating budget?

Yes absolutely; and it is a great idea. You can reduce your VM spend from $100 per week (leaving the VM on all the time) down to $24 (for a 40-hour work week). This stretches your cloud dollar by a factor of 4! As of August 2024 we have these reference links for setting up an automatic on/off timer:

- [AWS Instance Scheduler](https://aws.amazon.com/solutions/implementations/instance-scheduler-on-aws/)
- [Azure Start/Stop VMs](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-functions/start-stop-vms/overview)
- [Google cloud VM start/stop documentation](https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/instances/schedule-instance-start-stop)

Also note that when you create the VM resource: The “wizard” helping you along the way may offer to set up a timer as part of that process.
