Suppose I wish to use use licensed software on the cloud. This might be a quantum chemistry package or a finite element package such as ABAQUS FEA just for example. Is there some community wisdom on (a) finding pre-existing solutions and/or (b) how to install and run such software from scratch?
To support this question here are a couple observations/opinions:
- A working example was built on the cloud at UW in 2017
- CloudBank is currently looking into a solution on Azure with help from Microsoft research advocates
- As a rule it is in a provider’s interest to make cloud use possible (since this increases potential scope for adoption) but there will generally be implementation issues to address
